The Charm of a Rumble Seat… Posted by Jive-Bomber on November 5, 2013 and filed under: Hot Rods When I bought my ’29 Model A Roadster, it was a rough-bodied rolling project that was purchased based only from photos. When I finally saw her ‘in the flesh’ it was a long, hot Fathers Day weekend trek to Phoenix. Yeah, Arizona-in-June-kinda hot. I didn’t care that it was 115 degrees, or that I had an eleven hour drive back home that night, I just wanted to know if it was a trunk or a rumble seat model (In all those ‘A’ pictures sent by the yard, there were no clear shots of her rear). As I approached the back of the roadster I could see a rough, gouged out hole in the bottom of the deck lid. Darn it! …A trunk car, and a butchered one at that. However, after lifting the unattached lid I could clearly see the locking slot at the top of the opening below the tulip panel and the blocked off hole inside the lid where the latch used to be. Hot dog! She was born a rumble seat car. Even the dented in rear fender tops showed where passengers had crawled in and out of the rear compartment, stepping on the thin body metal. Read...

Calling all Glen Ellyn Scavenger Hunters…we have Waldo!

Where’s Waldo? Come find him in Downtown Glen Ellyn for our 5th annual Scavenger Hunt. He’s turning twenty-five this year, and to celebrate, the famous fellow in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting 30+ different local businesses throughout our downtown. Those who participate and spot him can win prizes, including buttons, books, and more! The scavenger hunt is free of charge and participants begin at The Glen Ellyn Public Library any date after July 1 (but make sure to leave enough time to finish your quest before July 31)!  We have 20 required businesses to find Waldo and 18+ optional businesses that will hide a Where’s Waldo book that once you find, you can enter in drawing to win.  Once you complete your 20 required businesses, head to The Bookstore, turn in your completed sheet, and enter to win one of many awesome prizes!  The first 100 to finish will also receive a Where’s Waldo button. The Grand Prize is a complete six-volume set of Waldo books. Prizes include and are not limited to a $100 shopping spree in Downtown Glen Ellyn. Each participant that finds Waldo in the 20 required businesses will get a free cupcake at 2Toots Train Whistle Grill.
